August 17, 2011 - Summer wrap up

Today is my last day in Kingston before school which unfortunately means a lot less time to work on the handheld project. After the meeting with Holly and Kak Saturday I spent this week tweaking settings on things on the application and on the website as well. The latest version is available for download on this page (to the left) and is password protected. The password for download was emailed to those on the list
If you have difficulty updating, let me know.

Things that are new in latest version:

Things that have changed on the display page:

I may have missed a few changes, and if it looks there were some issues talked about that I did not cover with this please point them out! The to-do list is still open so keep 'em coming.

Given the various changes in URLs over the last few weeks, I think it's worth listing all the current URLs of different things:

August 6, 2011 - Binghamton server issues

Binghamton's Saturn server has had hardware issues and is in the process of being rebuilt. This is where all the files and data for the handheld project were being stored. The files and database are fine, but the web server will need a bit longer before it is back up. So for now everything will be pointed to my server and once Saturn is back up, then I will add the data from my server's database to Saturn.

The reason for the Gloeo Bloom submission failures has been identified and fixed. When I copied the script to handle data submission over to Saturn, I missed changing one configuration field which threw that off. It is working as of this morning on my server.

I have been working on implementing the Failed Submission queue for the Android application as that appears to be the most pressing issue. I also started working on the teaching-aid iPad application to showcase and explain the GLEON Buoy. The Failed submission queue still needs a few days work. The iPad application needs only a few hours perhaps to finish.

July 25, 2011 - State of the Union

I just started this blog to keep posts on what's happening with the LSPA Recorder application and display page. It also has links to the latest Android application and will have an email list sign-up. I'm hoping that people who are actively using the program will follow this and provide me with feedback as you encounter problems or have ideas for improvement.

I'm trying to figure out the problems with the gloeo bloom data submission. The Binghamton survers have been down for a bit and that is where all the files are hosted. So that is at somewhat of a standstill. I have started working on a "Failed Data Submission Queue" for the Android application.

For the display website, the idea of breaking dates down into year, month, day, and Julian Day seperately was proposed. From a researcher's perspective does it make sense to do it like this? Or would it be easier to handle that kind of search and examination from a program like Excel after downloading a specific data set from the website?

Known Issues:

Data submission doesn't always tell user the correct response

The javascript controlling the display of search options on the website is dependent on browser version and active-x controls

Data submission fails for gloeo bloom data

To Do:

Failed Data Submission Queue for the Android application

Google Maps plug-in for choosing latitude and longitude search criteria

Google Maps plug-in for displaying queried data points

Combine CSV data with MySQL databases

Clean up file location and web server settings on Saturn server

Add a link from the Android Application to the Data Display web page

Work on agreement of units between the Android application and the display site
